Hey M’Dudes, I started Pokemon Violet this week and have been loving it! This is a write-up/companion piece to the first Catch ‘N’ Battle video over on the HNTP YouTube channel, handily included in this post!

I chose to omit videos and the story as much as I could and focus mainly on exploring and the collecting and battling of Pokemon. That’s what the game is for, am I right?

BUT, I will explain bits and pieces as we move along. Our character, for instance, is a new student at an academy where every student is given a Pokemon. How great is that? We start out the game with Directer Clavell popping round to sort out the final details and letting us pick which Pokemon to start with.

Our choice is between Sprigatito, Quaxly and Fuecoco. I have possibly an irrational dislike of Quaxly so he’s a no-go. And I’m naturally drawn to fire so … this one is a no-brainer.

#4 Fuecoco

So Fuecoco it is, and not wasting any time, our new neighbour who lives in the massive mansion a mile away is hot for battling, and off to the beach she goes to fight us. This is accidentally omitted from the video … but she picks Sprigatito and we wipe the floor with her, natch.

She is supposed to be taking us to school for our first day, and our journey begins through Poco Path.

Then we hear a noise, go through a broken fence and fall off a cliff where we meet a mysterious Pokemon washed up on the beach. The only logical thing to do is give it a sandwich and follow it into a mysterious cave!

This leads us to a slow walk through the Inlet Grotto and some more additions to our Pokedex:

When we finally escape with the help of our new friend (who wards off an attack from a powerful Houndoom) we head to the lighthouse where we are challenged by fellow student, Trainer Arven.

And that’s where I wrapped up the first video. From there we’ll be heading into a new area and I’m sure plenty of trainer challenges and new entries in the Pokedex!
