A Step – Journal

My intention is to take a step a day.

Now, I don’t mean a physical step. I try to take a few thousand of those a day, along with some calisthenics and I’m planning on re-adding yoga to the mix due to my on-again-off-again back issues.

The step I’m talking about is a step forwards in any of my ‘creative’ endeavours. Writing Human Cargo or Space Precinct Zero or Tales of the Crimson Hood, or making something or whatever. I’ll be working on all of these and talking about my progress. From the writing itself to making props and costumes for the scenes or short films that I’m also hoping to produce that are based on the books.

I have my off days, just like everyone. Quite a lot of them. I’ll even feel very unmotivated and that I’ve not done anything when I’ve actually kind of done a lot … Today is one of those days when I actually haven’t done a lot. At all.

I worked briefly on the gap I’m plugging on Human Cargo, as I discussed yesterday. What Royal Svikari is doing before Captain Brendan Utnytter enters the hangar.

But I’ve also recently been wanting to return to the gaming channel that I had started: How Not To Play. I picked up my Nintendo Switch again recently after a hiatus and was excited to delve back into Pokemon Legends: Arceus. I ordered some new games to go along with my newly returned excitement for gaming and I really wanted to start recording again.

I haven’t recorded anything properly yet, but I have managed to get a basic setup together to enable me to record from the Switch. And I’ve also been looking for ‘appropriate clothing’ for the content I’ll be making.

With the existing content I wore associated football shirts. I wanted to wear something Pokemon-inspired and even Nintendo-inspired, so I’ve been in search of a few items to wear.

And that’s been my forward step for the day. It hasn’t been a leap but I haven’t entirely stood still, either!

It’s inspiring to see someone juggling so many creative endeavors while being honest about the ebbs and flows of motivation.

Even on days when it feels like you haven’t done much, it’s clear that you’re laying the groundwork for amazing things to come.

Remember, progress isn’t always about giant leaps—it’s the consistent steps that add up over time. Be kind to yourself, and know that even on quieter days, you’re still moving forward in ways that matter.

Looking forward to seeing where your creativity takes you!
