Rocky Start To New Path

Things are getting stirred up around these parts, M’Dudes. With a website overhaul to reflect my output as a…Creator?

If you type in DOMAComics.co.uk you will be brought to…well, DOMA Comics (depending on when you read this!). However, most of the content you will find here, and most of the content that I will be posting here going forward is not comic based. I wanted to fix that to be more accurate.

There may not be many signs as of yet, but all of my writing projects (Precinct Zero, Human Cargo, Tales of the Crimson Hood, The Sceptic Truth…only one of which being a comic book but also being reworked into a novel) all exist within the same universe. A universe that I have taken to unofficially calling The DOMAVerse.

That’s unofficial no longer. It doesn’t just mean the fictional world that I have been developing, I just outed myself there! But it also includes my other ‘output’ that needs a place to go.

I have dabbled with gaming content in the past and I am looking to dig deeper into that, which is where the Rocky Start in the title comes in.

My plan is to begin careers on various sport games. NHL, NBA, MLB, Rugby. I chose to do some test recordings with Fifa 23.

I am recording onto an external hard drive to allow longer recordings. Up until this point, I had recorded footage and transferred it to my laptop for editing. This week, I received a fancy microphone so I could talk along as I invariably got battered on whatever sport I fell into.

Naturally, I was excited to try out my full setup. The settings for recording were still on external hard drive, but when I unplugged the device to pull the footage onto my laptop, the path had been broken. When it is plugged back in, it apparently needs to be reset. I did not do this. Or know to do this…

I played two games, one of which I recorded but the footage failed to save due to the broken path to the hard drive. The second game I just didn’t record at all! So all I have is two audio recordings of me playing Fifa 23… but I’m happy to say that the microphone is incredible!

What have I learned? Do a checklist for setup. Plug in the hard drive, reset the path in capture settings. Mic up. Hit record on the microphone. Record the bloody footage.

So it wasn’t an entirely failed test. This is what tests are for, right? I now know that the hard drive needs resetting even if it says the hard drive is the save location. I now know that I am very likely not to start recording the footage!

Next time, maybe I’ll actually get audio and video and can get to the edit room!

PS If you want to listen to the unedited test recordings, they are available for supporters here and here.
